Structured curriculum, not casual coaching
Every batch follows a written 12-week block with defined technical outcomes. You always know what your child is working on this month and why.
DD Sports Academy started in 2014 with two rented courts, twelve kids and a conviction that most badminton coaching in the city was really just supervised court time. Twelve years on, the method hasn't changed — write the curriculum, keep the groups small, measure the progress.
Most players plateau because nobody corrected a fundamental early — a panhandle grip, a flat-footed base, a smash powered by the shoulder instead of the forearm. Those habits get harder to unpick every year they survive.
So we front-load technique. In the junior pathway, the first two blocks are almost entirely grip, footwork and stroke shape, before we let anyone chase power. It looks slower for three months. It compounds for a decade.
Beyond that, three things are non-negotiable: small groups so every player gets corrected in every session, a written plan so progress is visible rather than vibes-based, and conditioning treated as part of the sport rather than an optional extra.
We're also honest about fit. If a player would be better served elsewhere, or if you'd be wasting money on a programme they're not ready for, we'll tell you at the trial.

2014
David Raj starts coaching a handful of kids on a rented pair of courts in Pavoorchatram.
2017
The junior curriculum is formalised into levels, so every child follows a clear path from a first grip to match play.
2019
The academy moves into its own premises on Pavoorchatram Road with dedicated courts and a viewing area.
2021
The on-site pro shop and stringing service opens, later expanding into the DD Sports own-label range.
2024
Structured fitness and mobility work becomes part of every squad session rather than an optional extra.
2026
A steady stream of players through the academy and a squad that travels to tournaments.
Plenty of places will rent you a court and feed you shuttles. Six things make this an academy instead.
Every batch follows a written 12-week block with defined technical outcomes. You always know what your child is working on this month and why.
Batches are kept small enough that every player gets corrected in every session, with enough shuttles to go round rather than queueing for a turn.
Full-height ceilings so a proper clear can travel, and no cross-draught to push the shuttle off line.
Get your racket strung to your tension while you train, try court shoes on an actual court, and take advice from a coach who has no incentive to oversell you.
We enter players in district and state circuits, handle the paperwork, and travel with the squad.
You are not handed to an assistant once you have enrolled. David coaches the whole pathway himself, which is why corrections carry over from one block to the next.
Move with your mouse, a finger or ← →. You swing when the shuttle is in reach. Tap or press Space to serve, and to attack as it arrives — a jump smash high, a drive at chest height, a net shot low. First to 21.
Ceiling height that lets a proper clear travel, no cross-draught to skew flight, and a floor that holds up to a full training week.

Most academies hand you to whoever is free. Here there is one coach — certified by the Sports Authority of India — and he takes the whole pathway.

Head Coach
Certified coach, Sports Authority of India (SAI)
David coaches every batch at DD Sports Academy himself — from a five-year-old's first grip through to squad players preparing for tournaments. One coach across the whole pathway means nothing gets lost when a player moves up a level.
Coaches every batch personally, from Little Smash to the squad
Corrections carry over between blocks — nothing gets re-taught
Sets the racket recommendation in the pro shop himself
Knows every player's name, level and weakness
Warm-up and movement
Footwork and mobility first. Conditioning is part of the sport here, not an optional extra.
Technique block
Grip, footwork and stroke shape, in a small group — so every player is corrected, not just watched.
Game situations
Drills turn into rallies and match play: net play, doubles rotation and shot choice under pressure.
One thing to take home
Every player leaves knowing what to work on, and it's picked up again next session — nothing gets lost.
“The players receive good instruction regardless of their skill level or level of fitness. … The coach is very knowledgeable about badminton.”
Your first session is free — and he'll tell you honestly which batch fits.
